Student difficulties and teaching strategies related to the derivation of Kepler’s laws from Newton’s law of gravitation

Abstract: The purpose of this seminar is to present the progress of my research since February 2018 and my latest work entitled 'From a central force to the area law.' The focus of my current research is to analyse student difficulties with connecting Kepler's area law with the assumption of a central force. Furthermore, I would like to present my next research plan, which analyses the challenges students face when studying Kepler's orbital law and its relationship to Newton's law of universal gravitation through two different methods.
