Competence development from lab work and fieldwork

SIG “Laboratory and Field Work Learning” under Danish Network for Educational Development in Higher Education (DUN).

In this seminar, we will discuss broadly the learning outcomes associated with learning in laboratory work and field work in university settings. Based on a recent systematic review, Hendra Agustian and Maja Ingerslev Pedersen (University of Copenhagen) will describe generally what research tells us about outcomes of laboratory learning. Then two international scholars – Marcy Towns (Purdue University) and David Simm (Bath Spa University) will provide perspectives on aspects of competence development in lab work and field work. In the final panel debate, a group of experts will discuss the function and potentials of lab work and field work in higher education settings in dialogue with the participants.
