Andrea diSessa as Velux Visiting Professor for three months at IND
The Velux Fonden Visiting Professor Programme has made it possible for IND to invite Professor Andrea diSessa to visit the department from August 1 to October 30, 2015.
Corey Professor of Education at the University of California, Berkeley, Andrea diSessa is undoubtedly one of the most influential researchers of both physics education and cognitive science. He has authored highly cited research papers on the epistemology of physics, educational experimentation, constructivist analysis of knowledge and wrote several books including Changing Minds: Computers, Learning, and Literacy (MIT Press, 2000). He has been a member of the National Academy for Education since 1995 and was Editor in Chief of the prestigious journal Cognition and Instruction for six years (2007-2012). More information about him can be found at http://gse.berkeley.edu/people/andrea-disessa
Professor diSessa will work collaboratively in several projects of our Department, including the investigation of students' difficulties with vector calculus in physics (collaboration with Ricardo Karam), the use of kinaesthetic learning activities in physics lessons (collaboration with Jesper Bruun) and the role of computer systems in mathematics and physics education. During his stay, diSessa will offer PhD courses and seminars dealing with a broad range of topics of his expertise. Moreover, he will assist us in developing a Physics Education Research Group in collaboration with the Niels Bohr Institute.
We at IND warmly welcome Professor diSessa and wish him a very pleasant and productive stay in Denmark!
